Toronto Raptors

A Toronto-based basketball team called the Toronto Raptors became a part of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the NBA. The Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies were established in the year 1995 as the expansion first teams of the NBA in Canada.

However, when the team of Vancouver Grizzlies moved to Memphis, Tennessee in the year 2001, the Toronto Raptors basketball team became the only official Canadian team associated with the NBA. Like most of the basketball teams in the early years, the Toronto Raptors struggled to make their presence felt. However, through the 1998 drafting of Vince Carter, Toronto Raptors had made it to the NBA playoffs during the years 2000, 2001 and 2002, and advanced to the semifinals of the Eastern Conference. Apparently, Carter was traded off in the year 2004 to another team, and the Toronto Raptors failed to make any significant progress in the NBA season of 2003 and 2004. In the absence of Carter in the game, Toronto Raptors’ Chris Bosh became the major player of the team.

The Toronto Raptors logo was unveiled in May 24, 1004 by Isaiah Thomas who was the first General Manager of the team. A nationwide contest was held to find talents to develop the Toronto Raptors Logo. From the 2,000 entries in the nationwide contest, the final top ten entries were revealed, and they mostly composed of animal names. Thereinafter, a final selection was made by the team and unveiled on Toronto Raptors television based in May 15, 1994. The chosen logo was inspired by the popular film Jurassic Park. The Toronto Raptors jersey was designed with the colors of silver, black, purple and bright red. These colors, specifically silver, were symbols that serve as tribute to James Naismith, who is the inventor of basketball.
