ACC Basketball

The Atlantic Coast Conference, or ACC basketball is composed of 12 schools, all of them located in the eastern side of the country facing the Atlantic ocean (hence the name Atlantic). Specifically ACC basketball is composed of ACC Women's basketball tournament and the ACC Men's basketball tournament. The ACC Basketball tournament history goes way back to the year 1954, when the ACC basketball for men was started exactly one year after its conception.

The ACC basketball tournament start date is traditionally every March of the year. Since its only a single elimination tournament, the ACC basketball schedule only lasts for four to five days. There are 12 teams competing for the top spot and an automatic selection for the national NCAA tournament.

Seeding for the ACC basketball standings are based on the regular season records of the team. All member schools of the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball face each other during the regular season to determine the standings when the tournament starts. The result of these games affect the ACC women’s and ACC men’s basketball standings in their bid to be the top seed. The seeds are used when the tournament starts and the team will have a better chance to part of the national championships.

Every year, the ACC Basketball Championship is held in a different location. The college teams participating in the ACC women’s and ACC men’s basketball will have a chance in hosting this prestigious event. Basketball is not the only sport featured in the ACC, all games recognized by the NCAA will be also be hosted by the member school of ACC.

Support for the teams is not limited in the country alone. Worldwide support for each team has been increasing. Media coverage for the ACC basketball games is rising and people around the world can actually watch in real time. The internet has also provided information regarding individual teams and their performance. Audio commentary is even available online where subscribers can listen to the live games. You can also see the updated ACC basketball scores and events online and real time.

If you are near in the US and near the Atlantic Coast, you can have a chance to watch the intense and exciting games in one of their stadium. Last March 2007, people flock to the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida to watch the games where the North Carolina Tar heels clinched the championship. ACC basketball tickets were available online and ESPN televised live the games from the quarterfinals until the ACC tournament championship.
