Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons is a professional basketball team in the NBA, and it is based in the metropolitan area of Detroit. Currently, the home court of the Detroit Pistons is The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The franchise of the Detroit Pistons basketball team was first established as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, and it was one of the teams playing at the National Basketball League or the NBL. It was founded by Fred Zollner, who was the owner of the Zollner Corporation, a manufacturing company for cars, trucks and locomotive engines. The Detroit Pistons history began after the team was established in 1948 when it became the Fort Wayne Pistons competing for the Basketball Association of America.

The Detroit Pistons logo had been redesigned by the team throughout the years. The team’s first logo was used by the team from the year 1979 up to 1996, and the design was a red ball enclosed in a blue circle. On the red ball, the name of the team was engraved. However, the team’s next logo was retained up to this present time after it was launched in the year 2001. The logo’s design includes a blue horse with red fired hair on top of the Pistons’ name. The Pistons’ name was written in a thunder font representing how bold the team is. Around the blue horse with red fired hair was the old design of the red ball enclosed in a circle.

It was in the 1980s that the Detroit Pistons made their first serious bid for the championships. For a period in the decade, the Detroit Piston players were called the ‘Bad Boys’ for their aggressive defense. This team that included famous players such as Isaiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman and Bill Lambier managed to overcome the Lakers domination to win the NBA crown twice. The Pistons were a very deep team at that time, and the Detroit Pistons bench featured outstanding players like Vinnie Johnson and Rick Mahorn. In the year 2004, a new Detroit team led by Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton also won an NBA title.
