College Basketball
College basketball is basically the same game that you see being played professionally on the NBA, only on a collegiate level. College basketball began in 1893, but it did not have the official 5-man team that we are familiar with today. They used to have 7 to 9 men on a team until the 5-man rule was established in 1896.
The NCAA or National Collegiate Athletic Association has jurisdiction over these college teams, and NCAA college basketball tournaments are some of the most popular basketball games around. College basketball comes with both male and female leagues, namely the Mens College Basketball Divisions and the Womens College Basketball Divisions. While Women's College Basketball does not get as much attention as the men's division, there are still quite a number of people out there who follow the Women's Basketball division religiously.
College basketball recruiting sometimes involves scouting for players in the high school leagues, and college basketball picks from the high school teams often end up getting scholarships in the colleges they play for. Basketball fans that follow any college basketball leagues can often get college basketball tickets at the NCAA basketball sites. Browsing through the NCAA sites for both leagues also allows fans access to the various college basketball information, including college basketball polls, college basketball records, college basketball players, and even information on the college basketball player of the year.
College basketball betting has become a pretty popular form of income for some college students. College basketball lines offer gamblers the chance to make a lot of money if they make the right choices. This usually involves consulting with people or sites that show college basketball odds. Basketball odds are often based on the team's ability to win against the team they are up against. This could mean big money for those gamblers who bet on a team that does not have that high a standing against their opponent but ends up winning anyway.
Since college basketball does come in both the men's and women's leagues, it is then no wonder that a lot of colleges are represented by two teams. Boston College Basketball has both a men's and a women's team, both carrying the same team name, the Boston College Eagles. The same goes for Barton College Basketball, with a male and female Bulldogs team for the sport.
For a bit of college basketball trivia, did you know that teams ranked 9th in the league often beat teams that are ranked number 8?
