Atlantic Division

The Atlantic division is composed of five NBA basketball teams, including the Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors. It used to include other NBA teams like Buffalo Braves, Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets and Orlando Magic. At present, the New Jersey Nets and the Toronto Raptors are dominating the Atlantic Division.

The Boston Celtics was formed in June 6, 1946. They played their first game in the same year at the Boston Arena. The Celtics are the team with the most number of titles in the whole Atlantic Division. They have 16 titles altogether. The Celtics Famous Celtics players in history are Nate Archibald, Larry Bird, Dave Cowens, Bailey Howell and a lot more.

The Nets were first named New Jersey Americans, and they started a career in basketball in 1967. Throughout the years, there had been notable rivalry between the New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks. At present, the Nets appear to triumph against all the odds, being currently one of the most dominating teams in the division.

Neighbors to the Nets, the Knicks had its first game in the 1946, playing against the Toronto Huskies. Their first game had also been their first victory, which they won 68-66 in an exciting thriller that lasted the distance. The Knicks won their first championship title in 1971. At present, the New York Knicks are somewhat struggling, faring a 33-49 win-lose record in the last Atlantic Division standings.

Being the oldest franchise team in the NBA, 76ers was established as early as 1939. The Philadelphia 76ers had featured some of the best players in the NBA, including ‘The Answer’, Allen Iverson, and Charles Barkley. Iverson was drafted in 1996, and he remained a key player for the 76ers until he was traded along with Ivan McFarlin to the Denver Nuggets.

The Raptors are a Canadian team that started playing in the NBA in 1995. The Raptors were known for great players such as Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Alvin Williams and Antonio Davis. However, the Raptors have not had much success in the playoffs. Things may change this year as they have done well to finish as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Atlantic Division is not only made up of great teams, but also fans that are passionate about basketball. You can expect these teams to play some of the most exciting basketball in the NBA.
