Southwest Division

The Southwest Division is a division that belongs to the Western Conference in the basketball league of NBA. The Southwest Division is one of the most determined and spirited divisions in the National Basketball Association. It is composed of five teams with the most number of wins in the regular season as a conference. Some of the teams possess great talents and skills that can even make it and have already made it to the Finals!

The NBA basketball teams or franchises that form the Southwest Division are the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, and the New Orleans Hornets. All teams are currently active in the league. In fact, the San Antonio Spurs have won the NBA championship back in 2005. The San Antonio Spurs team is one of the best in the Southwest Division. They have won the conference for 2004 to 2005 season. Now, there's a shift in power. The Dallas Mavericks won the Southwest Division for the 2005 to 2006 season. In 2007, the Dallas Mavericks repeated as Southwest Division champions.

In 2007, as a division, the Southwest Division has the most number of wins. At season's end, the Dallas Mavericks sits atop the Southwest Division with a ruthless sixty seven wins, and fifteen losses, with a winning percentage of .817. This is the third best ever NBA regular season record. Second is the San Antonio Spurs. The San Antonio Spurs team compiled fifty eight wins with twenty four losses and they are the only Southwest Division team left in the 2007 playoffs. The Mavericks were shockingly disposed in the first round by the 8th seed, the Golden State Warriors. The third in line is the Houston Rockets. They hold fifty two wins plus thirty losses. The Rockets are also out of the playoffs after a heartbreaking loss to the Utah Jazz in the first round. The fourth in the Southwest Division is the New Orleans Hornets. They have thirty nine wins and forty three losses. Lastly, the fifth in the Southwest Division is the Memphis Grizzlies. They only have twenty two wins and sixty losses. The Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Hornets are entering the 2007 NBA draft with lottery picks.

Overall, the San Antonio Spurs is still the team to beat in the Western Conference with their great record in the playoffs. Last year, the Dallas Mavericks went to the NBA Finals and lost to the Miami Heat in 6 intense games. The Southwest Division is full of superstars like Tim Duncan, Yao Ming and Dirk Nowitzki who is the first European to be crowned MVP of the NBA. It's sad that they are already out of the playoffs.
