Seattle Supersonics

The Seattle SuperSonics or the Sonics are an NBA basketball team that is based in Seattle, Washington. The first home arenas of the Seattle Super Sonics basketball team are the KeyArena or formerly known as the Seattle Center Coliseum where the team played between the years of 1967 up to present, The Kingdome where the team played from 1978 up to 1985, and the Tacoma Dome where the team played from 1994 up to 1995 during the time that KeyArena is being remodeled and restructured.

The Seattle SuperSonics team is one of the three major professional basketball teams in Seattle that goes with The Seattle SeaHawks and The Seattle Mariners. However, only the team of Seattle Super Sonics had won the championship in the year 1979 whereas the Sonics’ sister team of Seattle Storm in WNBA also won the championship in the year 2004.

The 1979 Seattle SuperSonics participated in a season which saw the team end up in second place in the Pacific Division against the Los Angeles Lakers having the record of 56-26. From this season as well, Fred Brown had won the title of first three-point shooting percentage in NBA. The 1980 coach of Seattle Super Sonics named Lenny Wilkens was regarded by the team as greatest coach they ever had because of the several season and championship win that he brought to the team. Lenny Wilkens was labeled by NBA as the “winningest coach”.

Dwane Casey of Seattle SuperSonics was the 11th season coaching staff with the Sonics but then got promoted as an associate head coach in November 2000 when Nate McMillan was named head coach for the Sonics. The Dwane Casey tenure with Seattle SuperSonics started on the 1994-1995 season from which he came as head coach in one of Japan’s professional basketball team.

The Seattle SuperSonics logo was composed two original designs. The first design was used from the year 1975 up to the year of 1995. This is the last logo to date referencing the team by its full team name. The second logo was used from the years 1995 up to 2001. This second logo has different colors than the first logo design.
