Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers, or simply known as the Lakers, started out as the Detroit Gems in 1946. The very next year, the team was transferred to Minneapolis, and it was called the Minneapolis Lakers from 1947-1960. The team was then transferred to Los Angeles, and has been there ever since.
Even as the Minneapolis Lakers, the Los Angeles Lakers were simply one of the best teams in the league. Throughout the years, Lakers history has only been marked with victories upon victories. In their 60 years of existence in the league, Lakers basketball has won a total of 14 BAA/NBA championships, 28 conference titles and 26 division titles. Including this season, the franchise only failed to make it to the playoffs five times.
The winning ways of the Los Angeles Lakers can be clearly seen in the defining year of 1972. This was the year the LA Lakers registered a thirty-three game winning streak, the longest in any professional team sports. They also won the NBA crown that season.
The golden age of the Los Angeles Lakers came in two waves. The first was in the 80s with the tandem of Abdul Jabar and Magic Johnson. From 1979 to 1988, the L.A. Lakers appeared in the NBA finals eight times and winning five of them. The second was the tandem of Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and their coach Phil Jackson. The trio would lead the team to three consecutive NBA crowns from 2000 to 2002. However, there was internal strife between the three key personalities of the championship team. This would eventually lead to O’Neal being traded to another team. O’Neal was then traded to the Miami Heat where he helped the team win its first NBA crown in 2006. The rivalry in basketball and Lakers and Heat added to the NBA drama every year, and it produced very intense match-ups every time the teams face each.
With the Lakers performing below expectations, many people are asking, “is Kobe gonna be out the Lakers?” Apparently, there is no mention about his transfer. Lakers’ tickets are almost sold out every major game of the season, and things with Los Angeles Lakers logo are also sold in great numbers. The Lakers logo itself is a legendary symbol of excellence in the world of basketball. You can visit the Lakers website to find out more about NBA basketball and Lakers players and team performances. You will also find Lakers tickets online.
Another highlight of Los Angeles Lakers games is the Lakers’ cheerleaders, who are major stars themselves. Also known as the Laker girls, they have also created their own fan base, and there are pictures of the Laker girls in bikini in various basketball sources.
